The evolution of the LMX bikes in photos

In this article

Here we go, the year 2022 is already off to a flying start in the workshop.

We are in full development of the new LMX platform that we presented to you recently, we give you a thousand : the LMX 56 !

You may have already seen it on our Instagram (@lmx_freeride), the prototype n°1 rolls regularly on the field with the aim of being tested and improved by our teams, in order to deliver you this year the most LMX integrated into the range.

This period of new year and strong technological developments is the perfect opportunity to look back on the first steps of LMX and the evolution of our models over the years, to arrive at those that you know today.

And all in pictures please !

The genesis of the project

The project appeared between 2008 and 2011, with the creation of a first all-terrain electric bike. The first frame was not strong enough, so the pedals had to be removed first. But you already know that they quickly came back in force afterwards…

It was then between 2012 and 2013 that four LMX prototypes named P1 and P2 were born, based on the concept of an ultra-light electric motorcycle, intended for use in motocross, freeride and enduro.

In June 2014, the first six frames of this P2.1 concept bike were released as pre-production models and became the first sales of the project.

  • Features : Chromo-molly 25cd4s tig welded steel without paint

In 2015, the latest LMX P2.2 and P.2.3 frames are industrialized and manufactured in Ukraine. About forty models will leave the factory.

  • Features : Powder coated steel

It was in 2016 that LMX Bikes launched a new e-commerce site and then became a real brand.

The evolution fo the platforms

LMX 161

2017-2021

The LMX adventure began with the development of the brand’s first aluminum platform : the LMX 161.

The search for lightness and performance was the common thread that gave rise to the LMX brand name, which simply stands for Lightweight Motocross (MX).

This is how the first French 45 kg electric off-road motorcycle was born in 2017.

LMX 161H

2018 - today

The LMX 161 was then approved as a 45 km/h moped in 2018 and is therefore available in two versions : the LMX 161H and the LMX 161MX. The road and public paths are now accessible to it, which makes it even more versatile and fun to use.

Equipped with a rearview mirror, license plate holder and front lights, it is the perfect partner for weekday urban outings and weekend sporting outings.

LMX 81

2017-2018

After the development of its ultralight electric motorcycle, LMX Bikes is looking for new goals and sets out to design an ultra-efficient electric bike.

This is how the LMX 81 was born in 2017 in its manufacturing workshop.

To meet the brand’s vision of ultra-performance, it was necessary to develop a two-wheeler much more powerful than a simple VAE. The concept of the LMX 81 seemed obvious : a two-wheeler with the appearance of a freeride mountain bike with pedals and the performance of a real electric motorcycle with a thumb trigger.

“It is thanks to the double transmission technology that we were able to put our LMX back on the pedals while keeping the power acquired”

CEO

LMX 64

2018 - today

The LMX 64 has been one of the brand’s emblems since 2018. The first LMX platform equipped with a torque sensor, it is a real revolution for the brand in terms of engine.

This 45 km/h speed bike is first offered in an offroad version, the LMX 64T. Then, it passes the European L1e-B moped homologation in mid-2020 and becomes the LMX 64H in street legal version.

Both versions are available today and make the LMX 64 an ultra-versatile two-wheeler that adapts to you however you ride.

Several improvements are emerging over the months :

  • The development of a belt transmission on the pedaling side : more discreet and more practical.
  • New controller in 2020 : color display, more modes and finer management of the torque sensor, direct USB connection to the bike with a computer.
“The LMX 64 is based on the transmission of the LMX 81 but has been made more industrializable in order to arrive at a reasonable final cost for our customers by integrating the idea of a torque sensor from the start.”
Adam
CEO

LMX 64 Ultimate

2021

At the end of 2020, LMX Bikes wanted to highlight its famous LMX 64 by offering a limited edition of it, even more efficient and innovative, marking 5 years of technical developments for the brand in the field of speed bike.

The LMX 64 Ultimate is an ambitious project responding to our desire to celebrate speed biking through high-end, high-performance parts, and to offer a version that would delight the most demanding riders and lovers of fine mechanics.

LMX 161 MXR

2021 - today

In 2021, the LMX 161 MX offroad evolved into the LMX 161 MXR.

With an R like Racing, this new version breaks all records in terms of performance among LMX vehicles. In 2022, it will participate in several competitions organized by the FIM to represent the LMX brand and its ambition to offer ultra-powerful and very playful two-wheelers on the ground.

Work on the throttle curve to make it as linear as possible. Detach from the ON/OFF behavior to arrive at a more flexible and progressive behavior.

LMX 56

2022

New for 2022 !

This new model will take its place this year as the spearhead and demonstrator of LMX know-how, thanks to its new geometry and engine.

It will indeed be much more than a simple version of the current LMX 64. Its chassis and components are inspired by the world of trial motorcycles, for great promises of performance. Enough to tame the steepest terrain and push the limits of what’s possible on two wheels !

As you will have understood, innovation is at the heart of the LMX philosophy and the desire to develop ever more efficient electric two-wheelers drives us every day.

Thank you for your support for all these years and stay tuned, this year 2022 is going to be full of surprises…
