Using your LMX in winter : tips and advice

Winter regularly offers beautiful sunny and clear days, perfect for going out riding on your LMX !

However, this season requires a little more care when it comes to the maintenance of your two-wheeler and the checks to be carried out before hitting the road.

In this article, find out how to adapt the maintenance of your LMX in the winter season and what to check on your equipment before going out.

Adapt the maintenance of your LMX in winter

  • Apply lubricant to the transmission chains to prevent freezing and corrosion caused by salt. Be sure to use a grease suitable for the type of terrain and climatic conditions.
  • Wash your LMX after each ride to remove any salt that could potentially be put on the roads. Avoid high pressure jets too close to sensitive elements : mechanical bearings and cassette, electronics : circuits and battery. Instead, prefer a classic water jet or medium pressure jet (such as portable pressure washers).
  • Dry your LMX well after each wash so that it does not get stored wet.
  • Your entire LMX should be stored in a dry and temperate place (between 10 ° and 30 °). Below this temperature, the battery level can be reduced by 30%. It is therefore important to store your LMX away from the wind to avoid damage caused by cold and humidity (impact on the battery and corrosion).

Special battery indications

  • Regularly charge the battery of your LMX so that it does not drain completely.
  • Store the battery in a dry and warm place so as not to damage it.

In extreme cold, if the temperature is below -15 ° C, your LMX will turn off. If the temperature is -10 ° C, the battery will reset. At these temperatures, the battery will not be able to recharge, so it is strongly recommended to store it away from the cold.

  • If you do not use your LMX during winter, we recommend that you store your battery at ⅔ of its maximum capacity (52V no-load voltage), in accordance with the user manual.
  • Have your LMX checked at the end of winter directly at the workshop or at your LMX dealer for a complete check-up and be ready for spring.

Check your equipment before leaving

  • Check the braking performance before each ride if you have not used your LMX for a long time.
  • Check the tire pressure of the LMX as it can decrease with the cold.
  • Check the chains of both transmissions or the chain and belt for belt drives.
  • Check the hubs.
  • Check the headset.

Cover yourself in the cold as a pilot

  • Multiply the thin layers of clothing to keep your body warm.
  • Prefer warm, waterproof clothing to protect yourself from humidity.
  • Keep your hands warm with waterproof gloves and liner gloves.
  • Wear waterproof, warm and snow-resistant shoes so you don’t end up with wet feet when you go out.

Adapt your LMX to the terrain

  • Lower your tire pressure if you are riding in snow. This will give you better grip.
  • Leave with a full, warm battery. Indeed, it risks discharging faster in the cold of winter.
  • Opt for sporting outings which will keep the battery warm to optimize the autonomy of your LMX.
